"Successful people maintain a positive focus in life no matter what is going on around them. They stay focused on their past successes rather than their past failures." - Jack Canfield

Goals During High School

During my four years of high school, I will make an effort to obtain a cumulative 4.5 GPA or higher. This goal will require years of hard work, dedication, and determination throughout my high school years. To reach this goal, I attended the Macomb Mathematics Science Technology Center (MMSTC) and chose to take English 10 Honors at Warren Mott High School during my sophomore year. These process goals will help me into reaching my outcome goal because MMSTC and English 10 Honors will add additional points into my GPA, in addition to the grades I receive every school year. Taking any accelerated class, as well as going to an advanced placement center, will help boost my GPA and my chances to get into many recognized universities. If I do not reach this goal, I will work harder, procrastinate less, and use a quicker yet more effective method in studying.
I want to make myself stand out by doing extracurricular activities that will make me more whole-rounded while being able to make our community a better place to be. To reach this goal, I joined the Detroit Symphony Orchestra's Civic Youth Ensembles to improve my skills on piano. In addition, I am continuing to work with the two choirs I am part of--the KKPM Grand Choir and the Isang Binhi Ensemble--in an effort to make donations and start charities to the needy and poor by singing in weddings, funerals, and churches and gaining donation money out of it. I am trying my very best to become a better musician, and overall, a better person. If I do not reach this goal, I will join new extracurricular classes on subjects that I have never experienced before and be part of extra volunteer work to make myself and my community better.

Goals After High School

After high school graduation, I will attend a well-recognized university. To reach this goal, I will have to obtain a 4.0+ GPA and a 30+ ACT score, which are the requirements for many colleges. My parents are encouraging me to attend an ivy-league university if possible. Many ivy-league universities including Harvard and Yale University require students to have a 4.2+ GPA. This means I will have to keep studying and continue to work hard during high school. After high school, I will need to be in an interview with them and discuss all of the activities--academic and extracurricular--that I have been part of. If I do not reach this goal, I will attend a lower-level university or financially try to enter these high-quality universities.
While I attend college, I will search for a small, part-time job. To reach this goal, I will look for good jobs online or ask my parents or relatives if they have jobs to offer. If I do not reach this goal, then I will simply attend a university and study there. Even if I decide to attend a university without having a temporary job, a small job during my college years will help pay bills and costs for my family.

The Importance of Academics

Why are academics important in my life? Without academics, I wouldn't be able to apply what I learned on real-world applications. Many subjects in academics are used in many fields--such as a doctor or an engineer. Academics help myself and other students prepare for what is ahead in the future. With the better knowledge and understanding of academics--I would be able to receive a job with higher pay, or a higher grade in my tests, such as ACTs and SATs. I would be successful with academics being a priority in my life. My parents are encouraging me to do well in my studies so that one day in the future I will be able to support them and my future family in their elder years. A successful future also means that we can completely pay off our bills and debts.

Google Drive Presentation

The Google Drive presentation on the Pythagorean Theorem is considered one of my finest works in school because it is the highest grade on a project that I have ever received, with an exception of the essay on "the cube in a cube." This presentation taught myself more about the Pythagorean Theorem, the man responsible of the foundation of this theorem, and how it is applied to the real world. It featured many visuals and simple problems that help viewers understand the concept of the Pythagorean Theorem.

Prezi Presentation

I believe the Prezi presentation I designed in Mrs. Gravel's Interdisciplinary Studies class is perhaps one of my best academic works because it showcased my designing skills and Prezi provided me with many features and possibilities that the simple Microsoft PowerPoint didn't. This assignment taught me many ideas to showcase visuals and provide presentations with various visual graphics. It also introduced me to new programs and presentation methods.

The Importance of Extracurricular Activities

Why are extracurricular academics important in my life? Extracurricular activities help increase my portfolio and personal record. These activities are necessary in interviews with big universities. Many schools and colleges are looking for students that can play an instrument, play a sport, speak another language, and much more. With extracurricular activities, they can increase your likelihood into getting into many universities, thus resulting into better jobs, better pay, and most of all, a better life. Even if extracurricular activities keep me busy, they are something I enjoy too.

KKPM Grand Choir & Mini Orchestra

The KKPM is a religious organization that has masses at St. Rene Goupil every first Saturday at 7:00 in the evening. I am the choir's current pianist. I also work with their instrumentalists including songwriting and transposing. The main sole purpose of the KKPM is to bring more people "closer to God."

American Guild of Music: Great Lakes Regional Contest & National Convention

The American Guild of Music has been "building young musicians today for a better tomorrow" since 1901. I have been competing as a pianist in the AGM Great Lakes Regional Contest at the Detroit-Wayne Metropolitan Airport since April of 2009. Although I lost this year, I was a top-three winner in 2010 (1st place), 2011 (3rd place), 2012 (2nd place), and 2013 (1st place).

Isang Binhi Ensemble

The Isang Binhi Choir is religious as well, but instead of performing during masses, they sing in weddings, funerals, and up stage. We did some Christmas caroling to donate money last year to Filipinos who needed help after the devastation of two deadly typhoons. We have been making donations to the needy and started charities for those in poverty since August of 2009.

Detroit Symphony Orchestra: Civic Youth Ensembles

I recently got in the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. The Detroit Symphony Orchestra is a community-supported orchestra that plays in the Orchestra Hall in Downtown Detroit. They have been known to be one of the finest orchestras (if not the finest) in Michigan and they helped develop young instrumentalists into great musicians. I know this because one of my mom's friends had a son who got into the DSO. He is now a musician for The Panache Group. By joining the DSO, I am expanding my career as a musician.

Website & Graphics Design

I am a fanatic of website design. I started site building with simple site builders such as Webs and Weebly since late December of 2007. Just so we make this very clear, I'm not making any of the dates up. I started coding HTML and CSS and applied them into my websites two years later. I have been a web designer for six years, and coded for four years. I have progressed with this talent ever since.
I started a small freelance web design agency called "Redpaint." Redpaint is a freelance website designer agency that offers the best-around plans at substandard prices. Redpaint to me was the start of a mission because I knew that I could start helping people build their websites. I have done it with one of my mom's friends, who is a business owner of the NRJ Flowers & Gift Shop. She has been satisfied with my work, and both her and I are looking forward to working with each other for another year. Redpaint will no longer provide services in 2015, and it will be my decision whether to keep the website up.

Definitely; it's fun, competitive, and something I can do once a year.

Accolades in Academics

I have received many accolades and achievements in terms of academic work and activities that are part of the curriculum. I received my very first academic award in 3rd grade, and with more than eighteen A's in the class, I received Summa Cum Laude, the highest honor given that year. I received all-A honors the entire time in Beer Middle School. My GPA has significantly went up by approximately .200 points in a year. This has made me become a better person because it shows that I am a determined, smart, and hard-working student while showing that I can still do many activities outside of school. These grades also help determine the reputation and statistics of the schools that I attended to, such as average test grades from students.
